Noma, daughter of Kaschei the mad faces the harsh reality of her father's death. She is Vesterka, or "Mistress of Death," a respected position of spiritual leadership amongst Kievan. Her father was a mad man to most, a man who learned to harness krovcara, blood magic only allowed to women, in his quest for power and beiefs in a different way of life.
